Please help. I recently brought a cat and it has been micro chipped. The old owner said they would change the details to my name but I keep texting and emailing to find out if they have and they just ignore me. I don鈥檛 know what to do 鈥?if my cat goes missing they will contact the old owners, not me! Is there anything I can do? I don鈥檛 even know the microchip company used. I live in the UK so please only answer with UK relevant answer. Thank you!Cat Microchip Problem, how to change registered details?
Find out from your vet which company the cat was chipped with. There are several. Your vet can tell which company it is by which wand/reader works, when held over the cat.
Look up their info online (if the vet can't give it to you) and give them a call to re-register the info.
Save the texts so that you have proof that the old owners are aware of the situation and you are not simply trying to ';take'; their cat. The company may call them to confirm.
Since the chips are about the size of a grain of rice, it would be hard to remove. If the chip has been there a long time, the cat's tissue would actually be attched to it and have grown around it. Talk to the vet, but I'm not sure removing it would be a reasonable idea.
Good luck!Cat Microchip Problem, how to change registered details?
Hey hun,
Keep getting on to the old owners but in the mean time ring a local vet and register your cat and they will advise you what to do!
Firstly I would ensure that you have the relevant information for that animal. i.e. licence and or birth certificate. If you have all these and you can prove the animal is yours then you can take the cat to your local vet and they will be able to help you cange the information stored on the chip. If all else fails you can get the chip removed and insert a new one with updated information
Go to your local vets with proof your new owner.
Contact the company that is holding the information, tell them you're the cat's new owner, you can verify it with the vet you use, and have them change the info for you.
Remember, people die, their pets go up for adoption, the info is able to be changed in that case, it can be changed even with lazy former owners not doing their part.
