Need to change registered owners name on desktop. Computer will not store edited info. How do I do this? ?

The easiest, legal way would be to reinstall the operating system, windows xp, vista, etc. using the original installation key, ie. look for the certificate of authenticity, aka COA for the licensed copy of the operating system that is installed on that computer. During the fresh installation, you will be able to set up the computer as the new registered owner. After the new installation, you should go to Microsoft's update site and update the new operating system with current updates for security, etc. If Microsoft does not validate the installation using the COA that you have, then you can call them on their 800 number and read them the installation code that comes up after the install explain your situation to them. If you are the legitimate owner with the COA, then they will validate the new install. It's really not as big a deal as it sounds like. Good Luck.Need to change registered owners name on desktop. If you reinstall windows (this works for xp and vista) you can re-register your name into it. You will lose any programs that have been added since it was new though. To do this; turn off your pc, wait 15 seconds, then turn it on again. Put your finger on F11 and be ready as you only get 3 seconds to do this. When the screen says to, push the F11 key then follow instructions. It takes awhile to do it all, but you will have no viruses or extra junk in your files. It will be like the day it was new.
