Using out of state license plate in Houston,TX problem?

I just moved from Michigan to Houston,TX. I know that within 30 days I should obtain Texas license, re-register ( change to Texas license plate ), please confirm me. However, I will only be in Texas for 7 months.

1. Should i really do all those changes? Because in order to re-register my car , i should also change/buy a new auto insurance in texas, correct me if im wrong. Any suggestions?

2. If so, who and where should I contact?

3. How big is the risk/consequences to be pulled over by Houston police?How much is the ticket?

Thank you so much in advance for any information. Really appreaciate it. Have a wonderful day!Using out of state license plate in Houston,TX problem?
Not a problem as long as you aren't a resident of Texas.

You are a resident, if you:

Have a full time job in Texas.

Purchase a residence in Texas and claim it as a homestead;

Register to vote in Texas;

Register an automobile in Texas;

Maintain a Texas driver's license;

Maintain checking, savings or safety deposit box in Texas;

Have a will or other legal documents on file in Texas that indicate residence in Texas;

Have membership in professional organizations or other state organizations; and/or

Establish a business in Texas.Using out of state license plate in Houston,TX problem?
If you are not changing your abode to Texas permanently you are not required to change your drivers license or registration. For example, college students and workers who are on a temporary job do not have to change. You should be OK. It's best if you have a permanent address in the state your license is from perhaps your parents or other relative and put that on your license before you move. Also Military who are stationed in Texas but have residence in another state do not have to change. They are covered by federal law.
